JavaScript - How To Assign Textbox Input Values To Variable In Javascript
Hi! I am quite new to the world of JavaScript as I have done basic corse for it... and I have learnt that best way to understand it is to play around with it... but now I am stuck with on of the problem!! Problem: How can we assign text box input values by user to a variable and display that variable back on another element of the same HTML document(dynamically)... Conditions: The value has to be stored as a JavaScript variable only. No server-side script is to be used and has to be done locally. Please help! I am using ASP validators and I have a contact form. I want to be able to have a phone and email radio button group. The email textbox also has a RegularExpressionValidator If the phone item is selected then I want the validation to be enabled on the phone text box making it mandatory while the email text box isn't, and if they choose the email as the contact it will be reversed. I want to be able to do this without having to do a postback. I already have the logic on the code behind and the enquiry object. also I am fairly new to javascript so I have been using mostly jQuery as easier to implement Hi.. I have form and i want to input data using barcode and it will display on textbox and after input on the first textbox the focus will go to next textbox untill it will go on the last textbox and on the last textbox it will automatically save the data's on the database. I have a PHP based calendar where the cells will change color depending on the number of clicks.. this all works fine, but is pointless if I can't send the outcome along in an email. I can do this with PHP but first need to get the values into a hidden field. This is what I have: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function countClicks (obj){ if (!obj.count) { obj.count = 0; } obj.count++; if (obj.count > 4) {obj.count = 1}; if(obj.count == 1){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#66CC33'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#66CC33'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Available'; } if (obj.count == 2){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FF0000'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FF0000'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Not Available'; } if (obj.count == 3){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FFCC33'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FFCC33'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Working'; } if (obj.count == 4){ obj.style.color='#000000'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FFFFFF'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FFFFFF'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Not Set'; } } </script> and... Code: echo "<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"availability\" id=\"availability\" value=\"\">"; All I'm trying to do is populate value with either 'available', 'not available', 'working' or 'not set'... however, it is worth noting that each cell may have a different value, e.g. 1 cell might be working while the other is not available... so i need to pass the values of all the cells. Can anyone help me out here. Many thanks, Greens85 Hello, I'm Stephen Martin, an undergraduate Psychology student and researcher. Although I am a self-proclaimed tech geek, the extent of my knowledge ends abruptly at any sort of coding. I need help from anyone who is willing. The paradigm: I am currently investigating the decision making strategies in a particular population (I cannot reveal too much, lest our study be scooped by competing researchers in the field). The paradigm that we use is built through a package called MouseLabWeb (http://www.mouselabweb.org/). MLWeb basically provides an interface for researchers to create a html/php/js/css website that presents a grid (table). A small example is shown on the aforementioned website. The javascript functions allow each participant's events to be recorded, timestamped, and written to a MySQL database. This allows the researcher to know which cells the participant viewed, in what order, for how long, and ultimately to which decision the participant came. Additionally, the PHP/HTML creates the table, but the data within it is populated by the javascript. This is a blessing and a curse. Here is why. The problem: The javascript offered by MLWeb allows the cells to be randomized. This is necessary, because in such paradigms, counter-balancing is required, otherwise there would be order effects (e.g., people tend to automatically read from the upper left) that are not controlled for. So the order of the columns and rows are randomized, the data which is then placed into the html/php table. For the current study, we want the cells corresponding to particular types of information to be shaded differently. For example, we'd want cells that contain bad information to be dark, cells that contain neutral info to be grey, and cells that contain good information to be white. The problem is that setting these values (style="background-color: #XXXXX) only applies to the table as created by the PHP. It only affects the position, and does not consider the information that it is filled with. We want the information that a cell is filled with to dictate what background-color the cell is. Example of the problem (A,B,C are the different types of info, with the surrounding character implying shading) What we want: Unrandomized: [.A.] [|B|] [#C#] Randomized: [#C#] [.A.] [|B|] What the problem is: Randomized: [.C.] [|A|] [#B#] Again, thank you for reading this long post. I'm up for any suggestions! TL;DR The website uses PHP to render a table and javascript to populate it. Javascript randomizes the column and row order upon each visitation, thus randomizing the cells. How do I make javascript issue a background-color change to each cell according to the information that it is populated with. I have to update the rowid(assigned to checkbox) whenever the textbox value is updated and this needs updating value of document.getElementsByName('rf_select[]') when checkbox value matches the textbox id. There can be mutliple number of rows each with a uniqueID (checkbox value) that matches with the textboxID onload. Code :- <td align="center"><input type='checkbox' name='rf_select[]' id='rf_select' value="rowId" CHECKED border="none"/> <td align="left"><input type='text' name='policy_no' id="rowId" size='25' value="test" onBlur=handleRowId('policy_no'); /></td> <script language="javascript"> function handleRowId(){ var arr = new Array(); var rowarr = new Array(); arr = document.getElementsByName('policy_no'); rowarr = document.getElementsByName('rf_select[]'); for(var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) { var obj = arr.item(i); //alert(obj.id + " = " + obj.value); for(var j=0; j< rowarr.length; j++){ if(rowarr[j].value == obj.id){ document.getElementsByName('rf_select')[j].value = rowarr[j].value+"#@#"+obj.value; } } } } </script> I am having problem assigning values here - document.getElementsByName('rf_select')[j].value = rowarr[j].value+"#@#"+obj.value; Any help is appreciated. hi guyz i do have a problem in passing javascript variable to <input type=hidden value=""> here's my code: <?php while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <script type="text/javascript"> function viewcodec(){ var randomValueCodec = randomString(5, 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789'); document.getElementById('commentMarkCodeCompCodec-'+<?php echo $row['p_id'];?>).innerHTML = randomValueCodec; document.getElementById('commentMarkCodeComp-'+<?php echo $row['p_id'];?>).innerHTML = randomValueCodec; } </script> <form action="" method="post" name="postsForms"> <div class="commentBox" align="right" id="commentBox-<?php echo $row['p_id'];?>" <?php echo (($comment_num_row) ? Is it a pointer instead of a copy? Is it to be expected? Variables don't do this but it's happening for arrays in IE and FireFox, maybe all others. Hello. I've been teaching myself HTML and CSS for a while, and now I've moved into the world of Javascript (but I'm still very much a beginner). For practice, I've been building a sample sign up form for a mock website, and I'm having problems with the birthdate section. The idea I had was to have MM, DD, and YYYY be the default values of my 3 textboxes (as an example for users), then set the value to nothing when the box gained focus. That all works fine, but I ran into problems when I tried to write an if statement to set the value back to MM, DD, or YYYY if the value was still nothing when the user clicked away. As it is now it just replaces the text inputted into the textbox (which of course is not good). Any ideas for what the problem might be? Code: <form name="signup" action="javascript:void(0);" method="post"> <table> <tr> <td>Date Of Birth:</td> <td> <input name="DOBmonth" type="text" value="MM" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBmonth()" onBlur="restoreDOBmonth()" /> <input name="DOBday" type="text" value="DD" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBday()" /> <input name="DOByear" type="text" value="YYYY" size="4" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOByear()" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><button name="Submit" type="submit" style="font-size: 1em;">Sign Up</button></td> </tr> </table> </form> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> <!-- document.signup.DOBmonth.value="MM"; document.signup.DOBday.value="DD"; document.signup.DOByear.value="YYYY"; function clearDOBmonth() { document.signup.DOBmonth.value="";} function clearDOBday() { document.signup.DOBday.value="";} function clearDOByear() { document.signup.DOByear.value="";} function restoreDOBmonth() { if ('document.signup.DOBmonth.value = ""') { document.signup.DOBmonth.value = "MM"; // alert(document.signup.DOBmonth.value); } } //--> </script> Another side question, if I set a variable equal to the value of a textbox, then change the value of the variable, does that also change the value of the textbox? or is the variable no longer associated with the textbox. Example: Code: var a = document.form.textbox.value; a = blue; does document.form.textbox.value = blue? or is var a now completely independent of the textbox value? Thanks! What I want is when the button 'Total' is pressed, the total frame the pictures and frames appears in the textbox. Hello, I am new to JavaScript and I am asking for help with this problem. I have a three textboxes in a form. Using OnBlur, I am attempting to call a function to add one to an input textbox to add 1 to the cost. As the user enters text into textbox01, the number 1 appears in the input box about cost, as the user enters text into textbox02, the input box displays 2 and the user enters text into textbox03, the input box displays 3. My JavaScript is as follows: <script type="text/javascript"> //copies contents of first textbox to second textbox function copyValue() { var textbox1 = document.getElementById("textbox1"); var textbox2 = document.getElementById("textbox2"); var textbox3 = document.getElementById("textbox3"); var txtAttendee = document.getElementById("txtAttendee"); var input_A = document.getElementById("input_A"); textbox2.value = textbox1.value; txtAttendee.value = 1; input_A.value = 1; } </script> In the form I have this: <input type="text" id="textbox3" style="background-color:yellow" onblur="copyValue();" /> I would greatly appreciate ANY help with being able to calculate costs, perhaps using the JavaScript ++/-- operators. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. hi, i am using <input type = "file" id = "upload"> in my html page. i want to disable the textbox of this control so that user cannot type any file location here. user can upload file only through browse button. is there a way to disable this textbox thru javascript? thnx how can i pass the var to textboxes Code: var win = 0; var loss = 0; var draw = 0; if (c == u) { draw++; return "It's a draw"; } else if ((c == "Fire") && (u == "Air")) { loss++; return "You Lose, Fire beats Air!"; } else if ((c == "Fire") && (u == "Earth")) { draw++; return "It's a draw!"; } else if ((c == "Fire") && (u == "Water")) { win++; return "You Win, Fire is beaten by Water!"; } <tr><td><input type=text size=5 name=w ></td><td>win</td></tr> <tr><td><input type=text size=5 name=l></td><td>loss</td></tr> <tr><td><input type=text size=5 name=d></td><td>draw</td></tr> |
